Goodbye to 2010..

Yes 2010 has been and gone in the blink of an eye! I really can't believe how quick it has gone and what a blast it has been, I've gone through a lot of ups and downs in the past year I think, luckily though its been mainly ups and 2011 seems to have kicked off with a high but I thought I'd reflect over the past year and what 2011 may bring!
The beginning of the year came with some sad news with the loss of my gran which left a big gap in my family and I still miss her every day but we had to get on and positive things came and passed in my life such as landing a fashion article in the 50s Rock n Roll magazine
UK Rock which for me felt like a light bulb going off in my head and made me discover my love for writing which I didn't realise I had and since April 2010 I've been writing my monthly article on fifties fashion, this has pushed me further with creating my blog and emailing other magazines.

Then came May and the Hemsby Pin up Contest where I won first place in the contest which I never expected to get as to say having the jitters would be a slight understatement, there were some gorgeous girls in that competition and I didn't think I'd even come in the top three but no I was wrong and I got some great vouchers to spend and got a double page spread in MilkCow magazine!!
I had constant photo shoots through out the year luckily enough, I got to work with some fantastic photographers and I definitely think I have become so much more confident in myself with modelling and am hoping 2011 will give me more of this.
University wise I passed each project and got through to the second year with good grades and am now half way into it! How quick it's gone, I've only got a year left until I have to go into the big wide world! Through Uni I've now done three work placements with three companies, Tatty Devine, Vivien of Holloway and of course Vintage Patisserie!! I'm finally getting some names on my CV!!
Towards the end of this year I went to my first Rhythm Riot where people were recognising me from the magazines which I thought was lovely!
I was also getting emails from newbie pin ups asking me for advice which is a real boost for me if I do say so, which makes me think I might do a post on some of my best pin up advice.
I celebrated my 21st birthday with a blast last month and was also Miss December in a blog calendar from a photographer I worked with!
So what can 2011 do to top such a great year? well I'm hoping to do some more writing for other magazines, blogs etc, really pull my finger out with modelling, which I'm already starting to line up!
Carry on doing great at Uni and all being well get some work experience at a magazine. As I've thought to myself that however much I loved working for smaller individual companies I think it is time to take a step up the ladder and try a designer or a well known magazine.
What can it offer? Only time will tell

Merry Christmas one and all

I wish all my lovely followers a very Happy Christmas, I hope you all got what you wished for! This year I had no idea whatsoever what I was getting from my family which was nice because I usually have an inkling but no not at all, so it was a lovely surprise to receive many books and DVDs including a book on Christian Dior and Coco Chanel which was really for  educational purposes but it is great to have these for a bit of light reading, well if you can call it that, my parents also gave me Mad Men series one to three on box set which to be honest I had been on about having it for a while now as it is the series to be obsessed with if you didn't know!  This series has been hitting the headlines this year as the must see TV with curvaceous ladies and handsome chaps who work for an advertising company .

The second box set I got was the whole collection of Marilyn Monroe films!! This made me very happy as I do love a bit of Marilyn so now I can sit at home and have some girly nights in with my ladies!
Once all the pressies were opened we sat down to a lovely meal that my mother made and I have to say I was feeling a bit worse for wear from last nights Christmas eve antics and drunk a  bit too much rum so unfortunately I couldn't eat it all but it was still yummy!
We sat down to watch Singing in the Rain and White Christmas, what could be more delightful!? Since I was young (this sounds rather stereotypical now) my mother and myself always used to watch the old MGM musicals and dream of having an outfits like actresses such as Rosemary Clooney and Grace Kelly once wore. It seemed such a nice way to spend Christmas day just relaxing watching these old films. I can't help but smile when I do watch them, and always try to figure out how they styled their hair, I will get it one day!

It also got me thinking on how things such as Vaudeville aren't as popular anymore, I know we have Burlesque which is about to hit the mainstream however would people really want to go see Vaudeville still?  I certainly would, it's definitely something lighthearted which is what we need for people to relax from the stresses of the 21st century however I'm not convinced it would be for everyone with the technical world we live in, it would be somewhat a Niche and underground which is how Burlesque started, but obviously during the early 20th century there was little else for people to do so they enjoyed going to the theatre to see Vaudeville.

So Christmas for 2010 has come and gone and I am now another year older hitting the grand old age of 21 and what a blast it's been. If 2011 is as exciting as 2010 bring it on I say!
Happy Christmas to you all and have a smashing New year, keep off the drink.. I know I will hehe.
Until Next Time

The Flapping Depression take one...

At university at this moment in time.. yes that's right now I'm involved in a creative styling product based on a Spring/Summer 2011 trend... this means I had to look at many many catwalks until I went cross eyed over eccentric fabrics and went mad over Japanese kimonos. I looked at men's wear and women's wear a few favourites were Marc Jacobs take on 70s chic and Alexander Wang's slicked futuristic look. But I somehow got drawn to menswear.. I wonder why you may be asking.

My partner in crime Rosie showed me
John Galliano's menswear collection and suddenly there was a light at the end of the tunnel. It was like a homage to the funny men of the twenties and thirties, yes that's right Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton. It worked so well, the references were so strong and it just stood out from other collections. Soon as I'd seen that collection others such as N.Hoolywood all started to make sense, there were links where there were no links before.. The trend we came up with was the Flapping Depression, a cross over between the 1920s and 1930s.
We organised a photo shoot at the Ace Cafe as a test shoot with two models Rosie had previously worked with and our lovely friend Eddy as our photographer. We were looking to create quite a grimey & grungy feel to our images as well as using strong Chaplin references. Here are some of the edited images (all edited by myself of course . Some work really well with the editing some not so well, I'll let you all decide that. This was only our test shoot we have our final shoot of the project on Monday 1st November so I will be reporting with image on that also.
Until next time

This is very in the style of our Chosen Publication; TANK

This is my favourite image from selection, it is very natural and wasn't posed, I think we captured Chaplin very well
This image was meant to look quiet prison like with the denim of the thirties
